Pharma industry has provided great innovation to medical treatments for decades. Nevertheless, just as the whole healthcare system, the industry is going through difficult times. Its business model remains based on licensing and selling drugs, in a moment when hospitals can’t face the pharmaceutical expenditure due to the cuts brought by the economical crisis.
To discuss the next steps that industry should take in the near future, more than thirty international stakeholders in the sector gathered in Barcelona to take part in a workshop organized by the Mobile World Capital Foundation mHealth programme and Pulso Ediciones. Executives from different companies such as Bayer, Boehringer, Esteve, Ferrer, Lundbeck, Merck, Sanofi Aventis, etc., from health organizations as Barcelona’s Hospital Clinic and the TIC Salut Foundation (Catalan Health Department) discussed what are the new services that pharma has to provide in the future, beyond its traditional role of making drugs.
