68% of Spanish executives consider mobility one of their top five priorities when investing in digital technologies, with connected vehicles, digital solutions for buildings, and wearable devices being the most highly valued products.

Mobile solutions are increasingly changing our daily habits, which is leading us towards a social transformation that not only affects citizens. According to the Accenture Mobility Insights 2014 report, which took into account more than 1,400 executives from 14 countries, mobility is also playing a leading role in driving business change. Spanish executives rank mobile-related change as one of their priorities. Moreover, half of them describe the adoption and deployment of mobile technologies in their companies as effective.

But, are companies really aware of the true potential that mobile technologies offer? Everything seems to indicate that they are, as 90% of Spanish companies feature a formal mobility strategy. In fact, Spain is one of the world leaders in this field; nearly half of companies are investing in mobile technology to increase their profitability.

Ismael Sancha, managing director of Accenture Mobility in Spain, explained that “it is very positive that Spanish companies are increasingly aware of the importance of mobility, as evidenced by the fact that almost eight out of ten include it among their top five priorities, and 95% have met or exceeded their profitability objectives for mobility to date.”

However, even though the data reflects a certain optimism, it should be kept in mind that there is still a long way to go and obstacles to dodge when it comes to fulfilling mobility’s true potential. According to Sancha: “much still needs to be done to convert specific business strategies into corporate strategies. The adoption of a global mobility strategy will make it possible to achieve a level of competitive differentiation that will facilitate growth in virtually any sector.

Beyond its adoption, the report also takes into account the ends to which Spanish companies wish to apply mobile technologies over the next year:

  • To access new markets
  • To develop new services and mobile products
  • To increase revenue through enhanced interaction with customers
  • To improve their knowledge of consumers
  • To improve the internal management of their organizations

Connected products are increasingly important in Spain, especially connected vehicles, which more than half of the executives surveyed highlighted, followed by connected solutions for buildings and factories (44%) and wearable devices (34%). We find ourselves, then, before a new scenario for Spanish companies, which can find in mobility a wide range of possibilities to help them grow.

The Accenture report was presented at the Accenture Innovation Center for Mobility, which recently opened at the headquarters of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation. This center is an innovative space dedicated to the design of new mobile services, evidencing Accenture’s commitment to the city of Barcelona and to MWCB’s objectives.
