Do your children use tablets or other mobile devices at school? How much importance do their teachers assign to the implementation of technological solutions in the classroom? At what level do schools prepare to apply this type of teaching? These and other questions related to mobile learning are generating more and more debate every day. While it is true that we are far from totally integrated mobile teaching, many educational centers have already taken the first step so that their students benefit from this learning tool, at least during a portion of their class hours. Thus, not only will they be enjoying the advantages of a different kind of learning, but they also will be able to master a series of digital skills they are sure to need in the future.
The Mobile Learning Awards, which in 2015 celebrate their third edition, are prizes specifically designed to foment the implementation of digital technology in schools across Catalonia. Organized by Mobile World Capital Barcelona in conjunction with the mSchools program, they draw upon collaboration by the Regional Government of Catalonia, the City of Barcelona, and GSMA. Due to the positive response by Catalonian schools and the remarkable turnout for previous editions, the 2015 Mobile Learning Awards are expanding to incorporate a new category: Mobile History Map. This new section of the prizes will join Educational experiences with mobile devices and Audiovisual micronarratives. From 10 November, 2014 until 9 February, 2015 at 12:00 noon groups of students and professors who wish to participate may register in one or more categories and submit their entries.
Category 1: Mobile History Map
Mobile History Map is a Mobile World Capital Barcelona project designed for students of different ages in the Catalonian educational system to create and geolocate cultural contents related to points of interest near their schools. As a result of this new initiative, the Mobile History Map category was created for the 2015 Mobile Learning Awards, which strive to promote the georeferencing of emblematic cultural heritage elements in Catalonia through digital technologies.
In order to participate, teams made up of a teacher and his or her group of students at the primary or compulsory secondary school level, will have to register and submit at least three contributions to the Mobile History Map application, available for iOS and Android, in at least three languages. The contributions will have to comply with the recommendations provided in the Mobile History Map blog style guide.
The participating schools will have a chance to win prizes, including backpacks, trophies, diplomas, 3D printers and Lego WeDo and Lego WeDo Scratch robotic classrooms. Who will be the best at geolocating sites across Catalonia?
Category 2: Educational experiences with mobile devices
This category was devised for teachers at different levels and areas – Nursery, Primary, Secondary school, Vocational Training, Foreign language learning, Arts, Sports or Adult Education – to share the various routes for the integration of mobile technology in Catalonian educational centers.
Teachers interested in participating in this category need to register using this form and present a multimedia document that describes the design, development and evaluation process for the project carried out at their school.
There will be a total of six finalists selected in this category, who will automatically win a ticket to the 2015 GSMA Mobile World Congress. Of these six, those winning the first, second and third prizes for the most innovative projects will receive personal gifts, such as a Kano Kit or a Samsung Galaxy tablet, in addition to gifts for the schools they represent (3D printers in different sizes).

Category 3: Audiovisual micronarratives
This category is open to all educational institutions dedicated to public service in Catalonia’s school system, at the Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Vocational Training levels, in addition to those dedicated to teaching Foreign Languages, Arts, Sports and Adult Education.
The objective of the Audiovisual micronarratives is to expose students to the possibilities of audiovisual language through the use of mobile devices. Using readily accessible software, the teams wishing to participate will have to create, in video format, a promotional spot for the participating school. The spot will have to show how mobile devices are used in the classroom. The working groups, to be made up of 1 teacher and 5 students, can already fill out the registration form and submit their entries.
The prizes in this category are distributed according to the ages of the students and include, as mentioned, Lego robotic classrooms and 3D printers for the schools, along with backpacks, diplomas and Kano Kits for students, in addition to a guided tour of the 2015 GSMA Mobile World Congress.
