The entrepreneurial world uncovers great opportunities in Barcelona to promote projects and initiatives. In recent years, thanks to its policy of identifying and promoting talent, the city has established itself on the circuit of major national and international events. The acceleration program Startupbootcamp, the hackathon Startup Weekend and Imagine Express 2015 are some of the events that have become musts on the entrepreneurial community’s agenda, along with 4YFN, the leading forum for international startups in the digital sphere.
The event backed by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and the GSMA will return from 22 to 25 February to the Fira de Barcelona convention facility on Montjuïc, with the aim of generating new opportunities for the entrepreneurial community at the global level. In its third edition, 4YFN is committed to startup competitions as the main channel to promote talent, while presenting a wide range of activities organised around three themes: Disrupted by Mobile, the Internet of Things and Digital Media. In this third edition, the organisation plans to increase the attendance figure posted by the 2015 edition, which drew over 8,000 people (more than triple the number in 2014).
The 4YFN Awards recognise the most innovative projects in the digital realm. Just as at the event’s second edition, they will be organised into three competitions, one per day, in accordance with the event´s themes. Jon Bradford, cofounder of F6s and Tech.eu, and the former Director of the accelerator Techstars in London, will be the new MC at the 4YFN Awards.
4YFN 2016 News
In addition to boasting the presence of Jon Bradford, 4YFN unveils the first confirmed speakers, forming part of a line-up listing leading figures in the mobile sector. The first names are:
- Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia and co-chair of the social network TPO.
- Zack Weisfeld, Managing Director of Microsoft Ventures.
- René Rechtman, President Inter at Maker Studios.
- Nathan Eagle, CEO and founder of Jana.
- Samir Arora, CEO, founder and chairman of Mode Media.
- Bhav Singh, CEO of Sandbox Partners.
For 2016 the event’s grounds have also been expanded: 4YFN, at Fira de Barcelona on Montjuïc, will occupy over 10,000 m2 more than at its 2015 edition, increasing its size up to 18,000 m2 in response to the requests filed by startups, investors, accelerators and Spanish and international corporations at the previous editions. This means new areas to hold talks, round tables, informal chats, and workshops with leading professionals in the field of digital innovation.
Finally, the sessions between entrepreneurs and investors, Founders & Investors, which in 2015 generated more than 5,000 meetings, will be even more crucial to the 2016 edition. With more space, segmentation by field of activity and according to the event’s core themes, along with new options so that entrepreneurs and investors can discover projects and accelerate their development, they have become key forums for startups and investors as part of the GSMA Mobile World Congress and its activities.
4YFN 2016 will also host the world finals of the Global Mobile Innovators Tournament, the first global competition for startups backed by IBM and 4YFN. Startupbootcamp IoT & Data will also present its demo days at 4YFN in order to share the most innovative projects carried out by startups participating in the initiative. Finally, the event will also feature delegations from countries around the world, including Austria, Belgium, Colombia, France, South Korea and UK.
