Drawing international talent and promoting the creation of tech-based companies: these are the main objectives of mVenturesBCN, the Mobile World Capital Barcelona project that got underway in October of 2015.

The initiative, headed up by Aleix Valls, with the support and collaboration of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, the City Hall of Barcelona, the Regional Government of Catalonia and Fira de Barcelona, welcomes, as the programme’s first partner, the Startupbootcamp IoT & Data acceleration programme, the initiative by Europe’s leading accelerator. Through this agreement, signed by Ángel García, CEO of Startupbootcamp IoT & Data, and by Aleix Valls, Barcelona aims to stand as an international landmark city in the fields of the Internet of Things and Big Data.

“The tie between Startupbootcamp IoT & Data and mVenturesBCN reinforces our commitment to the city and to consolidating a platform in Barcelona that channels innovative talent in the area of IoT and Smart Data,” said Ángel García. Meanwhile Aleix Valls, CEO of mVenturesBCN and MWCB, reported that with this collaboration “mVenturesBCN enters a strategic sector that will radically transform society in the coming years.” Valls added that “in Barcelona we have the opportunity to spearhead this social and economic transformation, for which we need to count on leading companies and entities like Startupbootcamp IoT & Data in our area.”

mVenturesBCN will join Startupbootcamp IoT & Data’s slated programming and participate in all the acceleration programme’s stages. The solutions proposed by the 11 startups participating in the second edition of the acceleration program, which began in Barcelona on December 1, cover very different aspects within the fields of the Internet of Things and Big Data, focusing both on the industrial sphere and the user’s experience.

These 11 startups, hailing from 8 different countries, will also benefit from mVenturesBCN’s arrival. In addition to the advantages furnished by Startupbootcamp IoT & Data, such as mentoring sessions with professionals, initial funding of €15,000 per project, and contact with potential investors, the startups will also receive training sessions from the mVenturesBCN team and, by extension, professionals and industry experts from 4YFN and MWCB.

The agreement between mVenturesBCN and Startupbootcamp IoT & Data will also bolster the initiatives carried out by 4YFN in the IoT field. The MWCB’s business platform for the growing community of global technology startups is committed to the development of solutions framed within the IoT, such that one of the three itineraries proposed as part of 4YFN 2016 is, precisely, the Internet of Things.

In the coming months mVenturesBCN plans to attract two more international acceleration programs, new partners for the Mobile Acceleration Hub that will make it possible to establish Barcelona as an ideal business location for entrepreneurs, startups and investors with stable initiatives at the global level.
