The working lines of Mobile World Capital Barcelona include the mHealth Competence Centre, charged with promoting innovative initiatives in the health sector. That is why during its first participation in the 5th R&D&I Workshops on ICT and Health, held in Girona, the application of the Catalonian Medical Emergencies System received the Mobile World Capital Barcelona mHealth award as the best mobile solution promoting health and well-being.
Joan Cornet, mHealth competence center manager, highlighted the step which applications like this represent for public health systems. “Mobile technologies can transform people’s quality of life. Medical personnel and patients are increasingly connected, but we need to continue to work to take advantage of the opportunities provided us by mobile solutions.”
According to Dr. Núria Torres, head of remote service with the 061 CatSalut Respon emergency helpline, recognitions like this foster an entrepreneurial spirit among health workers and spur them to continue working to fully integrate mobile technologies into day-to-day health care activities. With regards to the 061CatSalut Respon app, Dr. Torres explains that “the application came about as an effort to provide a comprehensive service in keeping with the public’s new communication habits”.
