Accelerators play a very important role in the growth of startups. On many occasions it is not enough to have a good idea to be able to take forward a project and it is necessary to have external support to carry out its development. This is the aim of acceleration programs, initiatives that are intended to guide startups in their different stages of development. But, what do acceleration programs really want from a startup?, how do they choose their candidates?
Startupbootcamp IoT & Data, the leading global startup accelerator focusing on Internet of Things & Smart Data, organized last week the Selection Days a meeting to select the teams that will join the three months acceleration programme hosted in Barcelona. “We are looking for people who want to learn. We select great teams with the ability to look forward and action-oriented” explained Angel García, CEO of the programme.
In the last six months more than 250 startups participated in the Startupbootcamp Pitch Days, a series of events around the world where participants had the opportunity to present their ideas. After conversations with more than 70 candidates, the organization invited 17 teams to participate in a final selection process.
During two days, more than 50 mentors rated the selected proposals and helped the organization to pick the top ten teams that will enjoy the benefits of the program from next January 14th. The 3-month accelerator will start in January and lead 10 startups, that come to Barcelona from all around the world, through different phases of development. Startups will be taken to the next level through hands-on sessions with more tan 100 mentors, master classes on topics ranging from lean to legal issues, and sessions with partners focused on sales, media and investment topics.
According Aldo de Jong, Co-founder of Startupbootcamp IoT & Data and partner at Claro Partners, “Startupbootcamp is all about transformation, from great teams with a great product or service to high-performance startups. You could see that happening already during the selection days where thanks to the advice and coaching from our expert mentors, the teams significantly improved their pitch, plans and dynamics in just 2 days”.
Not only that, every team will receive €15,000 in cash as a seed funding, more than €450,000 in partner services, and 3 months of free office space within the Internet of Things (IoT ) & startup hub Barcelona, in the co-working space that Startupbootcamp has in mStartupBarcelona, located in the Barcelona Growth Center building.
After the first 3 months of the Startupbootcamp Accelerator Program, teams pitch their company to hundreds of Business Angels and Venture Capitalists at Demo Day on April 9th. On average over 77% of our program graduates have gone on to receive funding for their projects. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to offer a pitch on the stage of 4YFN, the mobile startup event, part of Mobile World Congress program, on March 3rd.
