Education is a science that is constantly developing. Since the dawn of civilization, it has been key to societies’ evolution, and it is only logical that, with the passing of the centuries, the way knowledge has been imparted has evolved in response to the use of new instruments as well as the introduction of new educational theories.
In the 21st century the new instruments are mobile devices, and the pedagogical theories, recommendations for their effective implementation in the classroom. The challenge, then, is how to get both students and teachers to make good use of these tools to improve the quality of education.
mSchools, a Mobile World Capital Barcelona programme in partnership with GSMA, the Regional Government of Catalonia, and the City Hall of Barcelona, offers industry professionals initiatives designed to facilitate schools’ adaptation to this new methodology in which technology plays a vital role.
In conjunction with the most important annual event in the mobile industry, the GSMA Mobile World Congress, mSchools launches the fourth edition of the Mobile Learning Awards, backed by a broad group of experts and education professionals who recognise the most innovative projects by teachers and schools across Catalonia for the use of mobile technology in education.
The Mobile Learning Awards, which until now had combined categories designed to reward work by both students and teachers, in 2016 will be restructured to exclusively recognise teachers and schools.
There will be two competition categories in the Mobile Learning Awards 2016:
– Best Mobile Learning Experiences in the classroom. Teachers from public and semi-private schools in Catalonia are to submit classroom experiences through the mSchools Toolbox platform, the directory of applications chosen, used and evaluated by teachers and education professionals in Catalonia. In order to participate the teachers must register at mSchools Toolbox and submit their classroom experience. The 3 best experiences included on the platform will be recognised.
– Most Innovative school in Mobile Education. Through this category mSchools seeks to recognise the best on-going initiatives at public or semi-private schools in Catalonia. The finalists in this category will be the projects or policies by the most innovative schools for the responsible and effective use of mobile technology in education, with the top three initiatives receiving awards. Schools interested in participating should submit their projects through the mSchools website.
The finalists will be invited to participate in the Mobile Learning Awards ceremony, to be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Fira Gran Via convention facility. The deadline for the submission of experiences and projects is January 29, 2016.
Coinciding with the Mobile Learning Awards, on February 25 mSchools will capitalise on the impact of the Mobile World Congress to hold the second edition of Changing Education Together, a seminar to discuss the role of mobile technology in education and for the sharing of best practices. More than 500 school principals, representatives from the education sector, and political representatives will meet to raise awareness regarding the constructive use of mobile technologies applied to learning, to promote effective methodologies and best practices for their adoption, and to inform and motivate school principals to implement useful and effective policies.
Conceived as a forum for the exchanging of experiences that can serve as a reference point for other schools, the seminar will also showcase the mSchools programme for Catalonia’s educational community.
All principals of schools interested in participating in Changing Education Together 2016 (#CET16) should fill out the pre-registration form.
