Barcelona creates a “free trade zone” for mobile technology focused companies

The site will be located in the 22@ technological district beside the Mobile World Hub

**As of today, the mobile industry has more reasons to make Barcelona its new headquarters. **

**The city announced the creation of a new free trade zone for mobile technology focused companies as well as an incentive package that includes tax breaks and office rental help. **

**The free zone is scheduled to start operating on 2013 and, according to the city’s estimation, could attract up to 100 companies. **

Companies who establish headquarters in Barcelona will benefit from full council tax breaks, including license fees and taxes on waste management and vehicles. In addition, the city will also offer a 50% tax relief on social security contributions and a 6€/sqm rebate in office space rental for the first three years.

The free trade zone will be established in the 22@ technological district of Barcelona where the Mobile World Hub will be located, thus creating an industrial cluster focused on mobile technologies and entrepreneurship by the sea. The measures will now have to be regulated and approved by the City Council before they become effective next year.
