FC Barcelona wants the best apps
One of the city’s strongest brands is undoubtedly Football Club Barcelona (FCB) or Barça as it is generally called. The squad is one of the most famous and laureate, but it is also becoming an internet champion:
Facebook recently pinpointed the world’s top social landmarks and Camp Nou, Barça’s stadium was selected as the most social stadium in the planet, and the most social place in the city of Barcelona.
But on top of that, more than 1.5 billion fans picked FCB as the world’s best 2.0 sports club ahead of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea at StarCount’s The Social Star Awards 2012.
As the frontrunner in the combination of sports and the latest technologies, the club is now promoting the development of apps for smartphones and tablets.
The FCB APPS program was launched in May and calls out for any developer worldwide to pitch new apps, either presenting a concept (idea and predesign) or a prototype (a finished app, or in process). FCB will select the best ones, and help them in the process of improvement and brand-image alignment.
Those apps that are finally chosen, will be awarded as Official apps and will enjoy the promotion through FCB’s channels, in exchange for part of the revenue generated. Four apps are already being tested, and the club has already received over 100 proposals, 3 of which have been pre-approved.
Entrepreneurs, freelancers and small companies or startups are welcome to visit FCBapps.cat and learn about the requisites and the process. All apps should be original, incorporate a differential value to FCB fans, encourage the relation between the Club and its supporters, and respect its values. The preferred topics are entertainment and games, although any idea in topics such as education, health, social networks, photo & video and music is welcome.
