The artificial intelligence, the engine of the fourth industrial revolution

The Artificial Intelligence is understood, by many, as the intelligence of the future, since it enables to companies and consumers of any industry understand in what context they will be able to use these technologies and the impact they’ll have on their quality of life. However, there are a few others that see the IA as a threat for the society. There’s no doubt we live in a time of changes and we have a future plenty of great opportunities already to explore.

The dialogue, “Artificial Intelligence”, driven by Mobile Week Barcelona, considers the future autonomy of machines and robots. The speakers of the session Ramón López de Mántaras, director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA) of the CSIC; Carme Torras, the CSIC Research Professor and writer; Felix Vinyals, head to Felix Vinyals Biotronic Art Studio; Jordi Albó, associate professor at la Salle-URL, head of innovation in Social Robotics to Everis-NTT DATA and principal investigator of the project Roboautism at Tufts University, US; and Josep Marc Mingot, co-founder of Arcvi had a conversation about how our world will change or the way in which we will influence our decision making due to the Artificial Intelligence.

Ramón López explained, “The human being has a very diverse intelligence, mental states and consciousness, which does not happen in the machines. Although machines and robots of the future are very sophisticated, they will be always different from the humans as the body determine the intelligence of each one”. According to Jordi Albó, “whereas social robots base their system of control on the behaviour of machines, people are designed to create links between both”.

Josep Marc believes that “it is necessary to legislate the responsibility of algorithms and to put limits in the voracity of the data”. Félix Vinyals added “we need an ethical and social debate before that it appears the technology.” The debate came up with the conclusion that there is a need to align the automotive industry with human values. Society has to be clear what are these values and in what contexts will be developed.
