Ordering dinner via mobile, using apps to learn to cook better, paying at restaurants and cafes with smartphones, and choosing bottles of wine based on digital information are some of the new habits having arisen in the food industry in recent years. In all these cases technology plays a vital role.
Thus, 2014 saw the creation of Reimagine Food, the first disruptive centre dedicated to the food of tomorrow. With the aim of promoting innovation, research and the development of creative solutions that have a positive impact on the world, the Reimagine Food ecosystem brings together startups, entrepreneurs, foodies, chefs and international brands.
One of Reimagine Food’s most celebrated initiatives is its Prometheus acceleration programme, which in 2015 saw the launch of its second edition. In November the call went out for 15 ground-breaking startups with the potential to revolutionise the food industry, accelerate its commercial development, facilitate its financing, and design a competitive business model, with these companies to be publicly rolled out at major international events.

The Prometheus acceleration programme focuses on discovering disruptive startups that develop their solutions within specific areas, those subsectors whose transformation is most pronounced. Depending on the profile of each startup, and the technology upon which their products or services are based, Reimagine Food presents two calls:
Over the course of each of the three-month acceleration programmes the 15 participating companies will benefit from guidance by over 60 expert mentors and coaches. At the 2014 edition the Prometheus programme boasted the expertise of mentors from PepsiCo, Danone, Bombo, Gb Foods and Codorniu, among others.
The startups, moreover, will be in continuous contact with the main investors in the food sector and their corporate vending units, responsible for creating new products and innovating by establishing new business lines.
