Toro International opens R+D and operations office in Barcelona, and will explain it on a blog

Posted on August 1, 2012

Toro is a small but powerful and growing company working on contactless technology, that recently announced the creation of an office in Barcelona attracted by the Mobile World Capital initiative.

To build a solid team, Toro International has recruited 10 engineers in Spain, who are going to travel this week to their research and development center in Taiwan for a 5 month training. By New Year they will come back to Barcelona to launch the new office located in our MWHub. The company is based in Hong Kong, has its R+D and operations centres in Taipei, offices in Paris and Istanbul, and now a brand new operations centre in Barcelona.

Toro’s core business is NFC. Since their foundation back on 2007, they’ve been workin’ to provide the best environment for NFC service development, deployment, operation, usage and maintenance. They focus on the secure element of smartphones, creating the necessary elements to develop mWallet platforms, so their collaboration with other companies is key for their business.

One of Toro’s partners is NXP, a Dutch multinational that is also opening an office in the MWHub, but they also work with Nokia, RIM, VeriFone, and the SIM card leaders Gemalto, Oberthur and Giesecke&Devrient, who recently announced a new factory in Barcelona, to employ 325 workers and produce annually 60 million bank and SIM cards.

Although they were initially considering other locations suchs as Nice (France), Toro found that the MWCapital is going to create a unique ecosystem around the MWHub that will attract companies from all around the world and foster  the collaboration between them, something that Toro is very interested in. They also considered Barcelona a magnet of talented developers with top level Tech universities.

The adventure begins!

To follow the experiences of their new hires, Toro has developed a blog where the 10 new engineers are going to write about their 5-month adventure in Taipei. They will blog in English, Spanish and Chinese, and starting today, they will be writing about their expectations (or maybe fear) and training during 5 months in the Far East. They will talk about their everyday life, the cultural differences, but also about what they learn about NFC technology and resources, and the process of opening their office, with the assistance of other Toro and MWCapital workers.

Most of the new team members are fresh graduates (in informatics and telecom), although several of them have already started their careers and are now taking a new step forward. 8 guys are Spanish, one Peruvian and one from India, and a few of them already have some Asian experience, or a big interest in eastern cultures… We’d love to reveal more, but it’s better to leave something for the blog. So please visit toro-intl.com/blog and take a look by yourselves!
