From February 28 till March 3, 61,000 people from 183 countries and territories attended a new face-to-face edition of the Mobile World Congress Barcelona. Given the fact that there are currently 194 sovereign countries in the world,  we can assert that this is one of the most important and global events in the world today.

Those four days turned Barcelona into the world capital of technology and contributed greatly to the city’s economy – more than 240 million euros and 6,700 part-time jobs in 2022 according to the preliminary analysis of its organizer GSMA. To me, as a human resources professional, this is particularly important.

During the congress, our seven programs and the 50 people who work at Mobile World Capital Barcelona showcased the bore fruits of our activity in 2021 and the beginning of 2022. Our booth held events as interesting as the presentation of the 5G Gaming Arena, a project aiming at portraying the possibilities of 5G in the ‘eSports’ and ‘gaming’ sector; the release of Low Code Analysis, a report focused on the revolutionary potential of low code programming, which hardly requires technical knowledge, in the world of technology; the signing of the Hospitalet 6.0 agreement between the city council of Hospitalet de Llobregat and Mobile World Capital to achieve universal connectivity, digital training and job creation, as well as promoting technological innovation; the presentation of the Agrofood report, which aims to serve as a theoretical framework for the consolidation of Catalonia and Spain as a reference agri-food hub in southern Europe that contributes to the sector’s global transformation; or the Deconstructing Disinformation event to reflect on the evolution of fake information in contexts such as the war in Ukraine or the pandemic. Our European 5G Croco and 5G Med agreements aimed at promoting 5G connectivity and pilot tests in European road infrastructure were also presented.

As Director of People and Corporate Services at Mobile World Capital, I’m proud of the admiration our projects arise in the world and the impact they have on society. Our activity at the Congress has resulted in about 800 media appearances, 35 media interviews and 20 institutional visits in our stand.

During the pandemic, the professionals in our teams made a very important effort to balance between work and personal life. Today, they hold our teams together despite the virtuality of labor relations. But that is precisely what our job is about:  ensuring that digitalization is human and fair, and that it brings us closer and helps improve people’s lives.

Mobile World Capital Barcelona has cared for working conditions that our professionals endorse and are proud of – as am I as the organization’s Director of People and Corporate Services. All this results in a strong commitment to their work at the foundation, as reflected year after year in our employee satisfaction surveys. In this sense, last June 2021 we obtained the Great Place to Work certification based, fundamentally and among other aspects, on the company’s commitment to people, a People Centric work environment, and a cultural transformation project. 8.5 out of 10 surveyed employees believed our company to be an excellent place to work.

2022 marks Mobile World Capital’s tenth anniversary; we hope to celebrate 10 more, as we celebrate every day the great work of our employees for a better digital society.
