The Collider, a program promoted by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation, aims to connect scientific talent with entrepreneurial talent in order to create highly innovative technology-based startups that transform the results of scientific research from universities and research centers into marketable products or services.  

Through the company Barcelona Mobile Ventures, SL (mVenturesBcn), the program follows a unique methodology in venture builder form and sets up 3 to 4 startups per edition and year.  

Professional profile: 

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for setting up the new companies of each edition of the program (3 or 4 companies per edition), as well as monitoring all companies in the portfolio (13 companies), supervising the pilots with the program’s corporate partners, their growth and funding. 

The position is intended for professionals with more than 7 years of experience in the field of venture capital, venture building, corporate venturing, incubators or accelerators. 

The role requires going to the Palau de Mar building in the city of Barcelona at least once a week. 

Objectives and responsibilities: 

Reporting to the program director, you will be responsible for the tasks of a portfolio manager. By way of example, some of the key responsibilities include: 

  • Responsible for setting up the companies resulting from the Venture Building Program of each edition. You will be responsible for the negotiations of the program’s shareholders’ agreements (supermajorities in shareholders’ meetings, anti-dilution provisions, liquidation preferences, obligations to stay, exclusivity and non-competition of the entrepreneurs, share vesting, etc.); the coordination with the legal provider to create the final document, as well as the relevant signatures; and the disbursement of the investment by mVenturesBcn in coordination with the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation Finance Department. 
  • Monitoring the portfolio companies, participating in board meetings and shareholders’ meetings. You will be responsible for scheduling regular meetings for portfolio companies that do not have a system for managing the company in the form of a board of directors or do not meet with their shareholders every quarter. Likewise, you will represent mVenturesBcn during corporate transactions of portfolio companies (new investment rounds, complete / partial sale, creation of ESOPs, liquidation, etc.) and provide the companies with support in their initial fundraising processes. 
  • Request and review of the portfolio companies’ quarterly reports, in the exercise of mVenturesBcn’s right to information, and update of the internal balanced scorecard to monitor the portfolio as a whole, as well as each of the companies, reporting on them to the mVenturesBcn management team afterwards. The report will include the capital requirements of each company and the progress made in their fundraising strategy. 
  • Responsible for organizing The Collider’s Investor Day for each edition. In coordination with the program’s Ecosystem Manager, you will be responsible for organizing one Investor Day per edition to present the portfolio companies with investment opportunities to the investment community. 
  • Responsible for the administrative management of all legal documentation generated by the portfolio companies (copies of the articles of association, capital increase deeds, convertible loan agreements, etc.). 
  • Presentation of the terms and conditions of investment and structure of the shareholders’ agreement to the teams of all new projects joining the Venture Building stage of the program. Likewise, you will assist these teams with future company formation, shareholders’ agreements, technology transfer agreements and fundraising as needed throughout the program. 
  • Responsible for convening the mVenturesBcn Investment Committee at the end of each edition of the Venture Building Program to analyze, assess and choose the companies to set up. 
  • In coordination with mVenturesBcn’s Ecosystem Manager, you will supervise the creation of booths for portfolio companies within the 4YFN Congress. Likewise, you will participate in the congress to inform attendees about the program and facilitate the interaction of participants, investors and corporations with the portfolio companies. 
  • Collaboration with mVenturesBcn’s Strategy Manager in drawing up the terms and conditions to get investors involved in the pre-seed stage portfolio and in the program itself (partnerships / co-investment agreements). Likewise, you will also take part in refining mVenturesBcn’s business model. 
  • Collaboration with the legal and financial areas to carry out an internal audit and with the mVenturesBcn management team to prepare activity reports for the board of trustees/delegate committees of the MWCB Foundation. 
  • Creation of alliances and collaboration agreements with third parties: perks for portfolio companies (Cloud, communication and email marketing tools, product development consulting services, administrators and legal counsel, public aid consulting services, intellectual property protection, etc.), acceleration programs, pitch competitions and corporate challenges. 
  • Occasionally provide assistance to mVenturesBcn’s Business Developer Manager to present portfolio companies to the program’s corporate partners, as well as create a training capsule on the creation of Deep Tech companies using technology transferred from research centers or universities. 

Experience and knowledge for the position: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration and Management, Business Sciences, International Business Economics (IBE), dual degree in Business Administration and Management and Law or bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 
  • Graduate degree in Business Administration and Management. 
  • More than 7 years of experience in the field of venture capital, venture building, corporate venturing, incubators and/or accelerators. 
  • Speaks English fluently (at least C1 level) in addition to Spanish.  
  • Have advanced computer skills, particularly in MS Excel
