  • The Collider, the innovation program of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, has held together with XaFIR, a group of research centers from various Catalan entities, the Demoday of this OnCampus, where the participating teams have presented the progress of their projects.

  • The jury, made up of Industry 4.0 experts, highly valued the four initiatives and their contribution to industry and society.

  • All of them have been approved by the organization and now a pivoting system to continue with the line of research and the project is starting.

Barcelona, june 27, 2022 – The Collider, the innovation program of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, has celebrated the DemoDay of the first edition of XaFIR OnCampus, a scientific entrepreneurship program that identifies research projects and accompanies them for 5 weeks through its Lean LaunchPad methodology, which consists of taking researchers out of the lab and going to test with clients and industries.

The Demoday is a first connection with the business environment, an important step to advance to the next phase of the process and reach the market. In this sense, the teams, depending on the jury's assessment, decide whether their project is suitable to move to the next phase and, thus, get the Go. In this case, the four projects presented, all related to Industry 4.0, Tintin, Arriditive, Sigpro and Qbot, have obtained the Go

Sergi Besonias, programme executive of The Collider, has valued this Demoday very positively: "We are very happy that these four initiatives can continue in their lines of research and that we continue to bet on technology and science as an economic and social lever".

"The four proposals presented in this Demoday have a lot of potential and their solutions will be key to face the challenges we are facing. For our side, from The Collider, our vocation is to continue making possible the deep tech transfer between science, market and society and, thus, to respond to the needs of industry and citizens through innovation," adds Oscar Sala, director of The Collider.

Four strategic projects for the challenges of the present and future

The XaFIR OnCampus Demoday was held in an online format where each project had 10 minutes to present its progress to a jury of industry experts: Oriol Pascual, founder & CEO of Stage2; Emilio Angles, Industry 4.0 Development Lead at Kellogg's Company; and Manel Arrufat, Innovation Manager at UPC.

Maria Rosés, Innovation Manager of XaFIR, emphasized that "As an Industry 4.0 R+D+I network, coordinated by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and whose mission is to transfer research results to the market and society, the collaboration with The Collider is key for us, as it allows us to offer first level training in entrepreneurship. Furthermore, adds: "We are very happy with the results of the program and the DemoDay has been a clear demonstration of the progress of the projects in these 5 weeks. All of them have a lot of potential, despite being at different stages of maturity. Some of them are even planning to set up a spinoff in the coming months".

The participating projects were the following:

  • Sigpro (from CTTC's Communications Systems group) is an initiative that will help to achieve wireless solutions that will significantly reduce costs and evolve technologies.

  • Qbot (from the Industrial Equipment Design Center of the UPC) is a tool that allows to assess, during the design phase, the environmental impact of the product or machine depending on the manufacturing process, materials, imports or recyclability. The jury emphasized that the most important part will be to integrate the solution into existing software.

  • Aridditive (from CIM UPC) is a 3D printer of highly complex cementitious parts. The court has emphasized that it is very important that the printing is aimed at parts rather than entire buildings or houses.

  • Tintin (from the Information Modelling and Processing group of the UPC) is a software that allows to modify parameters of a relational database in a safe way, without creating coherence errors thanks to Artificial Intelligence. The jury has valued this project very positively, as it will be of great help to the sector.

OnCampus: bringing the research ecosystem closer to industry

The Collider makes possible the deep tech transfer between science, market and society with the protocol of accompaniment from the beginning to the OnCampus, passing through the Venture Builder investment, the Constitution and finally the Creation of the startup. OnCampus is a training designed for early-stage technology projects and aims to validate their application in the market together with industry experts.
