October 2, 2014
Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Telefónica renew their commitment to the Mobile World Centre as a leading forum for mobile technologies for citizens. Beginning in October the schedule at the Mobile World Centre will be based on educating the public, about creativity, innovation, and the promotion of entrepreneurship, with educational and experiential activities.
With the objective of sharing the potential of technological advances with the public, Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Telefónica have created the Mobile World Centre School, an educational program that will feature different theoretical and practical activities suited for all ages, and that has been designed after listening to users about their needs.
The School, free and open to all citizens, will offer highly practical education on technology, innovation, and mobile technologies which will show how technology is transforming our lives and how we can use it to improve our day-to-day at both the personal and professional levels.
The Mobile World Centre School wants citizens to exploit all the potential offered by the latest technologies and benefit from all their advantages in their personal and professional lives. At the School all kinds of people are welcome, from beginners to the most advanced users, from children to older people, professionals, SMBs, families, young people, students, and, in general, anyone interested in getting to know more about mobile technologies.
Every month all those interested will have access to a catalogue of 30 free educational activities, designed for participants to learn through games and practical experiences.
The informational activities at the Mobile World Centre School will center on the following categories:
Find out (informative lectures and talks on trends and developments), Learn (themed workshops clearing up questions, with a subsequent discussion session), and Practice (the use of applications and devices, guided by an expert).
For example, among other activities, young people will be able to construct their personal brand, while children learn good practices on the social networks. Parents, meanwhile, will be able to understand the advantages the Internet offers and the dangers it poses, while professionals will have access to training to grow their businesses. Seniors will discover how to use the many devices that can be of great help to them, and the most tech-savvy users will also have workshops on the latest trends.
One more step in its educational journey
The Mobile World Centre’s new lineup also includes temporary and themed exhibitions, running for several months, which will allow visitors to find out about artistic and technological innovations and participate in creative processes. This new format is based around interaction and direct participation among creators, citizens, and industry.
The first thematic features are Music and Arts (October – December 2014) and the world of Gaming (from December 2014), which will contain work by internationally renowned authors and experts. Each themed feature will also include participation by leaders in the sector, who will propose creative challenges for citizens and the industry to experience mobile transformation.
The Music and Arts exhibition, which may be visited starting 21 October, will boast a central exhibit entitled “New Realities,” and a program of parallel activities comprised of seminars on Art and Music, audiovisual concerts, a hackathon, and workshops for children, to teach them music via mobile devices, led by professional musicians (Toc&Roll workshops). This feature will include cooperation with the Beefeater In-Edit International Film Festival, which will place its professional area – In-Edit Fast-Forward- at the Mobile World Centre so that technological companies with projects linked to the Music and Audiovisual sectors can share them with the public, live.
Art and Digital Culture will play an important role in the program, with the aim of promoting interaction between viewers and new forms of artistic expression characterized by technological advances. Music and Arts will also feature a lineup listing some of the today’s most innovative digital artists, like Mar Canet and Varvara Gulijaveva, Universal Everything and Ryoichi Kurokawa.
