Mobile World Capital Barcelona at MWC26

02/MAR/2026 - 05/MAR/2026
Fira Gran Via, Barcelona

Mobile World Capital Barcelona has an exhibition space at MWC Barcelona designed to showcase the latest trends in science and technology emerging from Barcelona and to position the city as a global innovation hub. At MWC26, the foundation presents ‘The Invisible Becomes Visible’, a journey through 20 years of MWC Barcelona that also anticipates the immediate future of five strategic sectors.

This year, MWCapital’s stand at MWC26 showcases how, over the past two decades, technology has transformed every aspect of our lives, becoming organically integrated into our daily routines to improve people’s quality of life and offer solutions to some of society’s greatest challenges. Through the stand’s experiences, the Foundation demonstrates how this technological revolution will continue to shape the future and transform strategic sectors such as health, food, industry, retail, and the future economy.

Over the past 20 years, digital technologies have evolved significantly, impacting a wide range of sectors, including mobility. In this context, the Barcelona Innova Lab Mobility was created in 2022 as a collaborative initiative between the Barcelona City Council, Fira de Barcelona, and BIT Habitat, with the recent addition of new partners such as Mobile World Capital.

This session will explore how digital technologies have transformed mobility over the years, why innovation is essential to drive this growth, and how the Barcelona Innova Lab Mobility has fostered this transformation through challenges and pilot projects.

A group of 40 IESE MBA students, together with the Learning Innovation Unit (LIU), will take part in a live session at our stand during MWC under the concept of Phygital: the atoms → bits → atoms loop, in which data from the physical world feeds AI and its decisions then impact reality.

As part of the 20th anniversary of MWC, we will connect the journey of the past 20 years with a forward-looking view of the next 20, analyzing AI as a three-layer stack (infrastructure, models, and applications) and contrasting, based on what is observed at MWC, what is actually deployable with demos and claims.

Technological sovereignty is meaningless if it does not reach the productive fabric. It is not an abstract objective, but a direct driver of business competitiveness: it enables the acceleration of home-grown innovation, the creation of European value chains, the consolidation of local and regional suppliers, and the development of proprietary cloud infrastructures and digital solutions.

Accelerating Impact: The Road Ahead for Giga brings together the leadership of the ITU–UNICEF Giga initiative, government representatives and private-sector partners to take stock of progress to date and define the next phase of its impact. While school connectivity remains Giga’s primary goal, the initiative is increasingly focusing on what comes next once countries achieve full or near-full coverage.
In these contexts, Giga is shifting from an access-centred approach to one focused on optimisation, with the aim of improving the quality, resilience, speed, affordability and sustainability of school connectivity.

In a context marked by population ageing—with the projection that by 2030 one in six people worldwide will be over the age of 60—smart exoskeletons are improving mobility, reducing occupational risks and consolidating a global market that already reached USD 498 million in 2024 and could grow to USD 1 billion by 2030.
In this roundtable, experts will explain how an exoskeleton used by patients at Hospital del Mar enables a more personalised and precise recovery.

The 2030 Agenda and ESG criteria have guided the strategy of companies and public institutions for more than a decade. However, the current context — marked by geopolitical tensions, competitive pressure, technological sovereignty and the rise of AI — is pushing sustainability into the background. In addition, the latest UN reports indicate that many SDGs are not progressing at the necessary pace.

In this scenario, the roundtable will address how to ensure that ethics and sustainability remain structural priorities, especially in the public sector, whose mandate is to generate shared value and trust.

We will analyse the role of technology and AI as drivers of excellence and efficiency, as well as the risks involved if they are not integrated within a solid governance framework.

At MWCapital, we approach this from the perspective of “Humanizing Technology.” We will share experiences from organisations that use the EFQM model to align leadership, purpose, people, processes and results.

In 2025, Catalonia consolidated its position as a technology hub with 203 active tech hubs, following the establishment of 12 new centers. Tech hubs generated 4,433 new jobs over the past year and an aggregated economic impact of €4.109 billion.

In this session, the main conclusions of the fourth edition of the Tech Hubs Overview 2026 report, promoted by Mobile World Capital Barcelona, will be presented. Over the past decade, Catalonia has established itself as one of Europe’s leading technology hubs, with ICT employment growth well above the market average. However, this progress coexists with a persistent reality: the underrepresentation of women in technology roles, particularly in positions of higher value, influence and leadership.
Today, women account for around 30% of digital employment in Catalonia, a figure above the European average but still far from parity. In a context where Barcelona concentrates more than 150,000 active digital positions, attracts international hubs and multiplies startups, female tech talent is not only scarce—it is a strategic asset in high demand.
Against this backdrop, the session aims to open a space for dialogue with leading companies from the ecosystem to share real-world experiences, best practices and concrete strategies around key issues such as:
Attracting and retaining female tech talent
Development and internal promotion pathways towards leadership roles
Differentiated strategies for junior and senior talent
Cultural, organisational and market challenges in a globalised environment
