Mobile World Capital Barcelona is taking part in MWC Shanghai, China’s leading technology event, with a delegation of companies created through its technology transfer programme, The Collider. The companies participating are Pharmacelera, which develops computational solutions to identify molecules with therapeutic potential and accelerate drug discovery; Cooling Photonics, which develops passive cooling solutions to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions; OneCareAI, which develops AI-powered solutions for stroke prevention based on electrocardiogram analysis; and Nema Health, a biotechnology company developing personalised cancer immunotherapies.

The four companies each have their own dedicated space within the MWCapital stand, where they can showcase their innovations, build new connections and hold meetings with investors and other international stakeholders from across the sector. During MWC Shanghai, the companies will also have the opportunity to meet with investors and visit the headquarters of leading technology companies, including Huawei and Agibot.

Barcelona positions itself as a destination for Chinese companies

Alongside the business delegation, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, together with Barcelona City Council and ACCIÓ, the Agency for Business Competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia, organised the session “Barcelona & Catalonia as a Gateway for Innovation and Growth”. The event brought together several Chinese companies interested in establishing operations in Barcelona or Catalonia and featured the participation of Jordi Valls and Laia Corbella, CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona.

During the session, attendees were introduced to the opportunities that Barcelona and Catalonia offer as leading technology and innovation hubs, as well as to their dynamic business, research and innovation ecosystem.

Jordi Valls highlighted that Shanghai and Barcelona have been sister cities for 25 years and stated that “both cities share a commitment to innovation, sustainability and technology transfer in the service of citizens.” He added that “this meeting with Chinese companies during MWC Shanghai represents another major opportunity to showcase Barcelona as a leading international city for technology and innovation—a city with a diverse economy that has invested in key strategic sectors and offers businesses a platform for progress and growth.”

Laia Corbella, meanwhile, underlined Barcelona’s appeal as a city that brings together and connects talent with an innovative business ecosystem, leading universities and world-class research centres. “Barcelona is not only a gateway to Europe for companies from China and around the world; it is also a place where businesses can innovate, grow and expand internationally.”

An institutional delegation to strengthen partnerships

The delegation also includes representatives from the Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council, who are holding institutional meetings and strategic visits with local companies and organisations throughout their stay.

Through its participation, MWCapital further strengthens its role as a strategic partner of MWC Shanghai, reinforcing the international profile of Barcelona’s technology ecosystem while promoting knowledge transfer and innovation on a global scale.
