Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB) and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation (MWCapital) today signed a collaboration agreement at DFactory Barcelona aimed at fostering technological innovation and accelerating the transfer of knowledge to industry.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation to explore joint initiatives in strategic areas such as technology transfer, entrepreneurship and the development of solutions based on emerging technologies, particularly those related to Industry 4.0 and advanced logistics.
The partnership brings together two key pillars of Barcelona’s innovation ecosystem: MWCapital’s technology transfer programme, The Collider, which supports scientific and technological projects in their transition from the laboratory to the market, and the CZFB’s Logistics 4.0 Incubator, which focuses on developing innovative solutions across the logistics value chain. Both organisations share a commitment to fostering an environment that connects scientific talent, entrepreneurship and industrial needs, encouraging the creation of new technology companies with economic and social impact.
Although non-binding, the agreement lays the foundations for identifying opportunities for collaboration, promoting knowledge exchange and jointly participating in initiatives that contribute to strengthening Barcelona’s technology and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Potential areas of collaboration include the organisation of joint activities, participation in innovation-related events and the exploration of projects linked to technology transfer.
Blanca Sorigué, General Manager of the CZFB, welcomed the partnership, stating: “This agreement strengthens the collaboration between Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona and MWCapital to drive innovation and technology transfer across the city. At the same time, it represents a strategic step towards connecting scientific and business talent with the real needs of the logistics sector and Industry 4.0. The partnership will help create new entrepreneurial opportunities, attract high-impact projects and further reinforce Barcelona’s position as a leading international hub for innovation and talent.”
Albert Mascarell, Director of the Technology Transfer Area at MWCapital, said: “Barcelona has a unique ecosystem of talent, research and innovation. Through this partnership with Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, we aim to strengthen the connection between knowledge, entrepreneurship and industry by combining our expertise in technology transfer with the Consortium’s experience in Industry 4.0 and advanced logistics. Our goal is to create new opportunities to transform innovation into high-impact solutions that address real societal challenges.”
Through this initiative, the CZFB further strengthens DFactory Barcelona’s position as a leading international hub for Industry 4.0, consolidating its role as a meeting point for companies, start-ups and knowledge centres.
