Mobile World Capital starts a new chapter

Barcelona, April 8th.– After today’s meeting, the Executive Committee of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation has decided for a new CEO to step in thus fostering the start of a new chapter in the organization which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The process to recruit a new CEO will start in the coming days, a position that will contribute to expanding the legacy of Barcelona as the international capital of mobile technologies.

Carlos Grau will remain as the organization’s CEO until the new appointee has been confirmed by Mobile World Capital board of trustees, and will then continue to work with the organization as the Deputy General Director, enabling the transition and working on expanding the collaboration with private entities.

The Executive Committee has made a very positive assessment of Grau’s performance since he took over in November 2017, a period in which the Mobile World Capital was able to consolidate its strategy around its four programs: technology, innovation, talent and society. It’s public-private collaboration and the great figures achieved have turned Barcelona into a reference for 5G research and implementation, digital humanism and digital talent and innovation, enabling a successful technology and science to industry transfer model.

Jaume Collboni, Executive Committee Chairman and first deputy mayor of the City of Barcelona, thanked “Carlos Grau’s leadership as CEO, a time during which the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona was not only strengthen but also worked towards building a social and economic legacy”. Collboni said he was “excited about this new chapter of the organization, coinciding with its tenth anniversary” and added that “it will help it grow even further and consolidate itself as one of the main innovation and technology capitals in the world, with clear priorities: business and technological talent promotion and support for the capitalization of companies and technological ecosystems.”

The foundation’s management team aims at maximizing and making big progress towards building and economic and social legacy. Barcelona is the international capital of mobile technologies thanks to the support of GSMA and all its collaborators, both public and private.

It is a time to keep on building, to assess what has been achieved, and to strive to give new momentum at a time when technology and digitalization are playing an increasingly important role in our society.
