More than 500 Startups from 56 Countries Register to Compete at 4YFN 2015

  • With three start-up competitions, registration for 4YFN Awards 2015 has concluded with twice as many candidates as the first edition
  • Renaud Visage, co-founder and CTO of Eventbrite, and Rich Riley, CEO of Shazam, will participate in 4YFN 2015
  • 4FYN’s Innovation Market has exceeded expectations with more than 200 startups having confirmed their participation

Registration has concluded for the 4YFN Awards, consisting of three mobile startup competitions that will take place at 4Years from Now (4FYN) 2015, with more than 500 candidates having signed up to participate in the event. The 516 candidates come from 56 different countries.

There are three 4YFN competitions divided into three categories over three days: Disrupted by Mobile on 2 March, IoT (Internet of Things) on 3 March, and Digital Media on 4 March. A panel composed of international investors, innovation managers and entrepreneurial experts have selected 24 startup finalists for the competition, 8 per category.

Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany are the countries with the most candidates for the 4YFN Awards. Meanwhile, Barcelona tops the list of cities with more startups competing in the event, followed by London, Madrid and Berlin.

The 24 Finalists

The first 4YFN 2015 award category, Disrupted by Mobile, involves mobile solutions that propose new tools for traditional industry to deal with an explosion of mobility in their business environments. The 8 finalists in this category are:

  • Chopchop, a British platform that reinvents the way we cook.
  • Caravelo, a Spanish proposal aimed at the travel and tourism industry.
  • Finnay, an application that turns gift purchases into a “treasure hunt.”
  • Dinube,a Spanish startup that has built the world’s first all-digital payment network.
  • Edamam, a solution that provides nutritional information in real time.
  • Kickdish, a planner for preparing healthy meals.
  • Hook mobile, a virtual mobile telephone solution.
  • Simularity, a proposal for the predictive analysis of data capable of detecting anomalies and forecasting adverse events in a data time series in real time.

The second award category is IoT (Internet of Things), in which eight startups will be invited to the Audi Stage to demonstrate the potential of the hyperconnected world:

  • Circular Devices, a Finnish company that proposes the Puzzlephone, a modular mobile phone with separate parts, the Puzzlephone. This startup is already competing with Google’s Project Ara.
  • Sentiance (Argus Labs), a startup that uses ambient intelligence to enable contextual and situational experiences to smart-phones, wearables and connected devices.
  • Fuel Loyal, which focusses on the transport industry, proposes a solution to optimise fuel storage processes and prevent misuse.
  • Visualead, a technology to help businesses connect to their customers through a fun and effective mobile experience.
  • Undagrid, a new platform of scalable cloud services to connect devices with each other and the Internet.
  • Clime, an application that uses sensors to track and monitor temperature, humidity, light and more.
  • Parcel Live, a solution for tracking and monitoring packages.
  • Atooma, a task automation engine in the field of IoT applications that learns the behaviour of users and their interactions with each app.

The Digital Media competition brings together eight projects that propose new ways to exploit, generate and consume content. The finalists are:

  • ToyMail, an app that allows parents to exchange messages with their children by converting toys into mobile interaction devices.
  • PhotoMath, the world’s first camera calculator.
  • Rormix, a platform for creating playlists with 15 seconds of video. It facilitates the discovery of emerging artists and calls itself a music finder.
  • SilverPush, a technology for tracking users across different devices (TV, computers, mobile phones, tablets).
  • Ustad Mobile, a platform that uses mobile devices to break down learning barriers in emerging markets.
  • Tellyo, an app that helps television broadcasters to monetise their video files on the web.
  • TimePath, which creates a virtual reality in which you experience the emotions of a classic scene in a film or even interact like one of the characters.
  • Tamoco, a technology for brand names, retailers and the mass media to interact with users via NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or QR codes.
