  • 24 children worked in groups to produce compositions using the Toc and Roll app at the Mobile World Centre
  • The Toc and Roll workshops form part of the Music+Arts series, the international exhibition featuring trends in Music, Art, and Digital Culture

This afternoon Mobile World Centre hosted the first Toc and Roll workshop, a session aimed at children ages 4 – 8, allowing them to create music through the use of mobile devices. The workshop benefitted from the participation of the musicians David Carabén (Mishima), Miqui Puig, Joan Colomo, and Oscar d’Aniello (Delafé y las Flores Azules), who accompanied the children during the process of creating and composing their songs, and also to share them on the social networks.

This first workshop boasted participation by 24 children. In groups of three, each team worked with one of the musicians to create a piece using the Toc and Roll app, a musical studio for tablets developed by minimúsica, making it possible to create melodies in an intuitive, visual, and entertaining way.

At the end of the session, the participants listened to the eight songs created during the afternoon and, along with their teachers and the team from minimúsica, chose the three best pieces, which were recognized with the awarding of a tablet and free tickets to the “minimúsica day” festival. The songs created can be heard as playlists on the channels of SoundCloud and YouTube of Mobile World Capital Barcelona and minimúsica, respectively.

Next Saturday, 22 November, the second Toc and Roll workshop will be held, which will also feature the participation of Carabén, Puig, Colomo, and d’Aniello. This second session is already fully booked up.

Transgression, Art, and Digital Culture

The Toc and Roll workshops are held in conjunction with the Music+Arts program, an international series centering on the latest tendencies in Art, Music, and Digital Culture. Universal Everything, Quayola & Sinigaglia, Scott Snibbe, Varvara Guljajeva, and Mar Canet are some of the 30 artists, designers, and international creators exhibiting their works at “Nuevas Realidades” (New Realities) the event’s central exhibition.

Music+Arts, open until 13 December at the Mobile World Centre, is organized by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Telefónica, and curated by the London-based agency Alpha-ville.
