AUG 31, 2025

On the occasion of the inauguration of Simbiòpolis at Palau Robert — an exhibition that explores how technology can contribute to a more human, sustainable, and collaborative future — the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation would like to invite you to Family Day, a special event aimed at families and children aged between 6 and 13.
With the goal of bringing Simbiòpolis’ values closer to all audiences, we have designed “Plastic Zero: Technology for a Living Ocean”, an educational and immersive workshop created specifically for families. This experience combines play, science, and innovation to reflect on global environmental challenges and invites visitors to discover the exhibition as a space to keep exploring technology-driven solutions for inhabiting the city of the future.

PLASTIC ZERO: TECHNOLOGY FOR A LIVING OCEAN
“Plastic Zero” is an innovative educational workshop that integrates emerging technologies — virtual reality with Meta 3D glasses, educational robotics with LEGO, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence — to address major environmental challenges affecting our oceans.
Through immersive and collaborative experiences, participating families critically analyze plastic pollution, the Pacific garbage patch, overfishing, and rising ocean temperatures, connecting these phenomena to global climate change and its consequences in the Mediterranean. Artificial intelligence is incorporated as a tool for analysis and simulation, allowing participants to visualize future scenarios and encourage sustainable decision-making.
In a first part, with the whole group gathered, we will introduce the three main issues affecting seas and oceans and reflect on the importance of water for our survival and the well-being of the planet, using AI tools such as NotebookLM, Claude, and Gamma.

Next, participants will be divided into three groups, which will rotate through three stations dedicated to key ocean issues: overfishing (explored through virtual reality using the Oceans Rift app with Meta Quest 3D goggles), ocean warming (demonstrated through live 3D printing), and plastic islands (addressed by building a robot with LEGO Education).
- Finally, a closing session will be held to reflect on what has been learned and to explore how we can place ourselves at the heart of the green transformation in order to achieve a more sustainable environment, with the support of technology.
What will you take away from this workshop?
This workshop promotes technological literacy, critical thinking, and active citizenship, offering an educational approach that aligns sustainability, technology, and intergenerational participation. Designed as a transformative experience, “Plastic Zero” places families at the center of climate action and educational innovation.
