Barcelona, 11 February 2019. Pedro Mier, chairman of AMETIC, the employers’ association of the digital technology industry in Spain, and Carlos Grau, CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital), have renewed the collaboration agreement for implementing strategic projects in areas such 5G technology, digital talent and the construction of a fairer society. The object of this agreement is to establish the framework for cooperation between both institutions so that they may exchange knowledge and experience that favour both organisations and the objectives they pursue. The commitments acquired by AMETIC and MWCapital significantly include seeking new areas of collaboration with a view to implementing 5G technology and programmes such as Digital Future Society and Barcelona Digital Talent.
In 5G technology, the objective is to promote initiatives that allow for the validation and adoption of this technology in a real environment. As for the 5G National Observatory (ON5G), knowledge on the application of this technology will be exchanged.
As for Digital Future Society, the purpose is to actively promote the creation of new areas of cooperation in order to build a fairer digital society. The agreement also involves a commitment to active participation in the working groups of Barcelona Digital Talent with a view to reducing the talent gap that exists on the market.
Against this background, AMETIC will continue to provide support to MWCapital in disseminating and extending the reach of significant activities such as Mobile Lunch, Mobile Talks and other initiatives of the Foundation.
During the signing of the collaboration agreement, Pedro Mier, Chairman of AMETIC, emphasised that “for AMETIC it is highly satisfying to renew the commitment with MWCapital to collaborate jointly on projects that encourage the industry and digital society. I am sure that the relations between our institutions will yield innovative products and services that help to place Barcelona and Spain as a world benchmark in the development of 5G technology and of initiatives that encourage the talent necessary to enhance our country’s competitiveness.”
Carlos Grau, CEO of MWCapital, meanwhile stated that “MWCapital and AMETIC share a commitment to improving society on the basis of the opportunities offered by digital technology and innovation. The renewal of this agreement will enable us to continue implementing innovative digital transformation projects such as the deployment of 5G and the encouragement of digital talent”.
