Mobile Week Barcelona is back. This initiative by Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) is a space for open reflection on the digital transformation through art, science and technology in order to stir up a debate about the challenges, limits and opportunities of the digital mindset embedded in our culture. Following the success of the first edition, this year MWCapital is looking for artists to exhibit their creativity as a vehicle to raise the new scenarios of the future of today. The artist selection process is now open and will end on 4 December.

Mobile Week Barcelona is to be held from 17 to 24 February 2018. During this time, the world mobile capital will become a space for reflection on the digital transformation in order to connect the entire city. In this edition, the initiative includes a full programme of exhibitions, talks and workshops in more than 70 facilities of the city’s 10 districts.

To take part in Mobile Week Barcelona, artists can submit their conceptual proposal inspired by the impact of digital transformation on our culture and based on the theme ‘The Future of Today using the online application form http://mobileweekbcn.com/en/call-to-artist-2018/. Candidacies received within the set period will be assessed by a jury of professionals in art, science and technology. Furthermore, one of the works will be selected for exhibition at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya once Mobile Week Barcelona has ended.

Mobile Week Barcelona 2017 exceeded all initial forecasts

In the first edition, held from 20 to 26 February 2017, Mobile Week Barcelona designed a programme that included 10 dialogues, 10 routes and 10 artistic creations in more than 60 cultural and scientific facilities, areas of innovation, research centres and universities, such as Disseny Hub, MACBA or Parc Tecnològic.

The initiative involved the participation of 60 speakers and many different collaborators, such as Marc Vidal, a digital transformation consultant; Enric Puig, a Doctor in Philosophy and professor at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC); Josep Ramoneda, a journalist, philosopher and writer; and Franc Aleu, a visual artist.

Mobile Week Barcelona also included 10 artists who used their work to transmit the increasingly close connection between art and the digital world. The works were exhibited in different cultural facilities in Barcelona, such as the one produced by Random Happiness, which was shown at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. Another notable work was by Fernando Vilariño, Deputy Director of the Computer Vision Centre, who created @BrossaInèdit, a cross-disciplinary project that sought to revalue digital collections through the contribution of the audience.
