Mobile World Capital Barcelona announces its new lines of action and strengthens its commitment to 5G

  • The core themes of today’s meeting were Digital Future Society, the new citizen empowerment programme to encourage social progress through the digital economy, and areas of work associated with 5G, such as 5GBarcelona and the 5G National Observatory

The Trustees of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) Foundation met again today to focus on promoting the new programme, Digital Future Society, which has emerged as a proposal for citizen empowerment with a view to encouraging social progress through the digital economy. Initiatives associated with 5G such as 5GBarcelona and the 5G National Observatory were also an important point on the agenda.

The Board of Trustees is formed by the Ministry of Economy and Enterprise, the Regional Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Hall, Fira de Barcelona; GSMA –all of which are founding members of the institution–, Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange and the Damm Group. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State for the Information Society and Digital Agenda, Francisco Polo, the Minister of Digital Policies, Jordi Puigneró, The Minister of the Presidency and spokesperson for the Government of Catalonia, Elsa Artadi, the Minister of Enterprise and Knowledge, Maria Àngels Chacón, and the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau. John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA Ltd and Constantí Serrallonga, Director General of Fira de Barcelona and other figures also took part at the meeting.
