Mobile World Centre inaugurates Music+Arts, an international series centering on the latest trends in Art, Music, and Digital Culture. Organized by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Telefónica, with curation by the London agency Alpha-ville, the event will provide a new perspective on Art and Music impacted by digital technologies.
“New Realities,” the event´s centerpiece exhibition, is organized into 12 interactive spaces featuring 30 artists, designers, and creators, including the likes of Universal Everything, Quayola & Sinigaglia, Scott Snibbe, Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet, among others. This exhibition, which can be visited free of charge, poses a reflection on the digital world and its integration into society by means of pieces like The Highest Human Tower (Mar Canet and Varvara Guljajeva), a virtual construction inspired by the Catalonian tradition of castells that seeks to create the highest human tower ever achieved.
Another key space is Cell (Keiichi Matsuda & James Alliban), an interactive installation that functions like a virtual mirror, creating interactive characters based on the labels of someone’s social network profile. Cell allows for interaction with these avatars, which follow the movements of the attendees, and grow in size and density over time.
The event, which may be visited starting today, 21 October, until 13 December, officially gets started with syn, an audio-visual performanceby the renowned Japanese artist Ryoichi Kurokawa. Kurokawa has exhibited in world-class facilities like the Tate Modern, MACBA, Centre Pompidou, La Biennale di Venezia, and Sónar.
Music+Arts also includes an extensive program of parallel events, such as the Beefeater In-Edit International Cinema Festival, whose professional area – In-Edit Fast-Forward – will be located at the Mobile World Centre. The Music+Arts cycle will also feature a workshop to foster musical creativity, led by professional musicians. David Carabén, Miqui Puig, Joan Colomo, and Óscar d’Aniello will teach children to write songs with the application Toc and Roll developed by Minimúsica, a Barcelona-born company.
The leader in mobile technologies for people
The new experiential and expositive feature bolsters Mobile World Centre’s standing as a leader in the conveyance and exchange of knowledge in the world of mobile technologies. Music+Arts is the first of the venue’s themed events during this new season.
With this program, Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Telefónica bring the potential of mobile technology to the people. The objective is to promote the Mobile World Centre as an open, participative, and collaborative facility.
