Mobile World Centre extends its Music+Arts series until February 2015

  • Since 21 October over 7,000 people have visited the exhibition, a figure topping the organization’s initial forecasts
  • The Highest Human Tower installation already stands over 2,600 meters

Music+Arts, the international event showcasing the latest trends in Art, Music, and Digital Culture, may be visited at the Mobile World Centre until 17 February 2015. Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Telefónica are extending the exhibition in response to popular demand. Since opening on 21 October over 7,000 people have turned out, a figure exceeding the organization’s initial estimate of 5,000.

Mobile World Centre will maintain “New Realities”, Music+Arts’ main attraction, curated by Alpha-ville and consisting of 12 interactive facilities. The organization will also hold parallel events and performances to enhance the relationship between visitors, the creators, and their installations. Since the exhibit opened its doors 54 artists, designers, and creators, including Ryoichi Kurokawa, Universal Everything, Quayola & Sinigaglia, Scott Snibbe, and Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet, have displayed their creations at the event.

One of the exhibition’s central pieces will continue to be The Highest Human Tower , the installation presented by Guljajeva and Canet that seeks to create the highest human tower ever constructed. Inspired by the Catalan tradition of castells, thus far the feature has drawn 1,741 participants and ascended to 2,600 meters.

As part of the lineup of parallel activities, tomorrow, Saturday, the Beyond Music+Arts event will be held in conjunction with Sonar+D and Alpha-ville. Five artists from the Digital Art scene – Quayola, Mira Calix, Felix Faire, Xavi Tribó from Glassworks, and Oriol Rosell – will present their latest projects and discuss new practices that are transforming the way art is created and experienced in the digital era.

Mobile World Centre will also welcome field trips in an effort to expose students to Digital Art. Since Music+Arts’ inauguration 1,023 students from 47 schools have visited the exhibition.
