Mobile World Centre opens A MOBILE STORY, an exhibition on the evolution of mobile technology, the most important technological advances in contemporary history, and their impact on our daily life. The Mobile World Capital Barcelona exhibition, organised in partnership with Movistar, and with the participation of Eurecat – the Technology Centre of Catalonia – and Advanced Leisure Services, will open to the public tomorrow, Friday 25 November.

A MOBILE STORY offers a tour through 10 installations that transport the visitor to different situations in which technology is a transformational element.

The main exhibit is a pioneering activity in the city that is free and aimed at the general public: the Virtual Escape Room. This installation consists of a game of strategy that presents several enigmas to be solved while using a virtual reality headset. This interactive experience, which takes place in a virtual laboratory, brings the users into contact with 3 technologies that are currently revolutionising the mobile industry: graphene, e-SIMs and 5G connection. In just 10 minutes, each participant must follow a series of clues to find the way to escape from the room before the mobile phone battery runs out.

At the same time, A MOBILE STORY stimulates visitor reflection by means of installations showing how technology has evolved and the impact it has had on people’s life. An example of this is “Technological Convergence”, an exhibit that allows us to see how we have gone from a paper-laden desk, a computer, a telephone or a calculator, to handling everything with just one tool: a mobile device.

In “Professions of the future”, the visitor discovers new professional profiles related directly with society’s digital transformation. These new professions, which require new competencies and digital skills, are only a sample of the changes the employment world is undergoing. In this respect, “Industry 4.0” presents different interactive formats through which the visitor can discover how Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), sensory technology or advanced computing are improving industry efficiency and creating new business models in strategic sectors.

A MOBILE STORY also includes installations that contemplate a more global analysis. For example, in “Smartphone Numbers”, the visitor enters a large audiovisual installation that looks over our daily interactions with mobile devices and displays the huge numbers that are generated through this activity.

“From calling to comprehensive management” offers a tour through the evolution of mobile devices which began with the appearance of the first mobile telephone as a mass consumer tool only 30 years ago. From this starting point, the exhibit sets out an interactive review of 10 key models that have allowed us to reach the current terminals.

A MOBILE STORY also includes an itinerant space that houses the latest market tendencies. This area will display different projects by companies and institutions, and will allow the visitor to interact with them.

The digital transformation of society

This new, interactive exhibition with a strong technological component constitutes a hitherto unprecedented space in Barcelona for reflection on the impact of the digital transformation of society. With this exhibition, Mobile World Centre strengthens its role as a space for learning and the exchange of knowledge on the latest trends in the mobile world.
