- Images captured by local and international photographers, videos, designs, and other creations demonstrate mobile’s far-reaching impact
Within the show, #MobileViewsBarcelona offers a selection of short films shot with cell phones and inspired by the city
July 15, 2014
From today until September 30, Mobile World Centre, the permanent showroom where Mobile World Capital Barcelona brings the latest mobile solutions and technology to ordinary citizens, will be hosting the exhibition Mobilized in association with Barcelona City Council. The show uses different forms of artistic expression, such as photography, graphic design, and experimental video.
Mobile’s everyday presence in different environments is revealed through selected snapshots by Barcelona-based photographers Jordi Adrià, Catarina Barjau, Antoni Bernad, Edu García, Leila Méndez, Manuel Outumuro, Sergi Pons, and Dani Riera, among others.
A global retrospective also documents the use of mobile devices in political settings, Maasai villages, and armed conflicts, with works from international agencies like Magnum, Getty, AFP, and Reuters and photos by Martin Parr, Bruno Barbey, and John Vinks.
Finally, assorted covers from Der Spiegel, Life, Icon, The Economist, The New Yorker, Wired, and other publications trace the impact of mobile in the media.
Mobile in AV and design
#MobileViewsBarcelona, a selection of short films shot with cell phones and inspired by the city of Barcelona, examines the world of mobile from an audiovisual perspective. Visitors will also be able to compare and contrast excerpts from classic movies, filmed before mobile devices were invented, with today’s cutting-edge productions, in a section that shows how direct interaction with radios, alarm clocks, and notepads has now been replaced by mobile services.
Vintage cell phone show
Mobile World Centre is also hosting an exhibition of vintage cell phones that traces the evolution and trends in mobile devices over the years. Visitors will be able to admire legendary models like the Ericsson Hotline and Mitsubishi ITT from 1988, the Motorola MicroTAC (1989), the Nokia 9110i Communicator (1999), the Nokia N-Gage (2003), the Motorola RAZR V3R (2004) and many more.
