Mobile World Centre will offer a special lineup of events coinciding with the premier week presenting mobile technology

  • Nine manufacturers will present the same innovations to be rolled out at the Mobile World Congress
  • The public will discover Google Glass, the company’s latest technology
  • A range of companies and associations will share the latest industry trends through a set of experiential exhibits

Beginning on 24 February the Mobile World Centre, Mobile World Capital Barcelona’s facility in the the Plaza Catalunya, will offer a special lineup of events to raise public awareness of the latest developments in mobile technology and solutions.

In addition to its permanent exhibition this space will host, in conjunction and coinciding with the premier week for the promotion of mobile technology, a set of activities, experiential exhibitions, and streamed screenings of exclusive content from the Mobile World Congress. On the ground floor of the Mobile World Centre Telefónica will organize an exhibition at which visitors can learn about the new devices that nine manufacturers will roll out at the Mobile World Congress.

Workshops, lectures, and talks on the mobile world

Between 24 and 27 February Mobile World Centre will host activities, lectures, and talks in which industry experts will inform the public about mobile technology, free of charge. For four days the centre will offer, between 20:00 pm and 21:00 pm, demonstrations of Google Glass, the company’s latest technology, an opportunity to experience augmented reality.

The program will also feature presentations and workshops on Music, Photography, and Data Protection, as well as some of the most important Mobile World Congress lectures, live or streamed, such as that given by Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) on 24 February at 6:00 pm, or IBM President Virginia Rometty on Wednesday, 26 February, also at 6:00 pm. There will also be exclusive rebroadcasts of lectures by Bitcoin, Shazam, and Anne Bouverot (GSMA).

On Wednesday, March 26 Mobile World Centre will present, between 9:30 am and 3 pm, Mobile Social Day. This event aims to inform the public about employment and educational opportunities offered by the mobile technology sector.

The public gets a look at ten manufacturers’ latest products

From 24 February through 8 March the Mobile World Centre, located in downtown Barcelona (C/Fontanella, no. 2), will become a window into the Congress and a showcase for mobile innovation. On the ground floor of the building, manufacturers will have exclusive areas to present their latest development to the public.

On the ground floor of the MWCentre Telefónica will display the latest products and developments which nine manufacturers of tablets and mobile devices will be presenting at this Mobile World Congress. In this way, Samsung, Sony, LG, Huawei, Alcatel, ZTE, Nokia, Motorola, and HTC will show visitors their innovations, which will simultaneously be rolled out at the Mobile World Congress.

Experiential exhibitions exposing the public to the latest trends

The Mobile World Centre’s new experiential exhibitions will allow visitors to ride a roller coaster thanks to Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles, charge their mobile device batteries in public spaces, or see webpage content shift with the changing colors of lamps. In this interactive, constantly-evolving multimedia space visitors will experience all the possibilities offered by mobile technologies, getting hands-on exposure to the latest advances in applications, gadgets and technological solutions. Between 24 February and 15 March the centre will host 11 experiential exhibitions:

  • Androids versus Apples: Tetravol, Ubiquity and LTC and Group will present this game to visitors through which they can experience augmented reality and compete against each other thanks to daily score rankings.
  • Yup! Charge: the company will install one of its quick charge stations so that visitors can check out this product that allows users to charge their mobile batteries in public places.
  • eInnova: the company will present its “Get more visitors to your website” game, an application that helps to increase traffic on webpages through a “gamification” process. Visitors can interact with the app without using any technological complement and eInnova will reward winners with tickets to the Mobile World Congress and 4 Years From Now.
  • Lhings:citizens will discover the connection between the virtual and physical worlds upon seeing, for example, how the contents of a webpage can be altered by changing the colors of a lamp.
  •  AECOC: the multisectorial association of manufacturers and distributors will present eScan, a platform that allows one to check out information on products, interact with them, and dialogue with brands, all by just scanning a bar code.
  •  Oculus Rift – Augmented Reality: visitors can try out Oculus Rift goggles, the latest-generation virtual simulation gadget. The exhibition also includes several examples of Augmented Reality developed by the companies of the Augmented Reality Barcelona group and applied to different sectors.
  • Catchoom: the company will present CraftAR, a new product that makes it easy for any designer or company to create and generate augmented reality experiences.
  • Engidia: the company will present “Super Mum & Dad,” a game in which kids and parents can play and interact through a smartphone or tablet.
  • Imaginarium: the brand will present i-wow, an innovative line that combines physical toys and technology to create a new gaming experience. This exhibition will illustrate how to make every game a key to enjoying online content.
  • Infantium: visitors will attend a demonstration of this winning Wayra application which, thanks to its cognitive technology, allows learning to be tailored to each student’s pace and learning style.
  • Cell Working: Mobile World Centre will offer a testing of the TabAlive application, a tool for educational purposes that allows teachers to manage and track their students’ learning.

The Mobile World Capital Barcelona will also include a demo area for applications featuring some of the companies which Wayra, Telefónica’s startup accelerator, currently works with at its academy in Barcelona. Among them: The Graffter, Audiosnaps app, Green Momit MintLabs, Marfeel, Smartaxi, Touch of classic, Sezion Studio, Social & Beyond, and Ensygnia.
