Mobile World Capital Barcelona, in collaboration with the Regional Government of Catalonia, the City of Barcelona, and GSMA is holding an App Contest on 6 June to celebrate the first year of the implementation of the mSchools program in Catalonian high schools. The event´s announcement attracted 86 app projects designed by 4th-year ESO students from all over Catalonia for the “Let’s Mobilize Computer Technology” course offered during the 2013-2014 academic year.
A professional panel made up of educators and experts in the development of applications has selected the 25 finalists, who will present their projects live during the competition, in an exhibition space where they can share their creations with all the attendees. The event, which will take place on June 6 at the TecnoCampus in Mataró, will recognize the six most innovative apps, in five categories: Personal Management, Leisure, Communications, Education and Services. The sixth award will be granted by a popular vote by those in attendance.
The winners will have the opportunity for professional teams of developers to implement the applications devised by the students so that they can be launched onto the market. The award-winning students and teachers responsible for each group will also receive a Kano educational kit, with all the components needed to build their own computers.
Through this initiative mSchools seeks further to bolster the link between students and the business world, allowing the best applications to cross over from the educational sphere and reach end users.
