Mobile World Capital Barcelona closed 2024 with a 14% increase in the valuation of its deeptech spin-off portfolio managed through The Collider, the foundation’s technology transfer programme that fosters the creation of companies originating from universities and research centres. With this growth, the value of the companies managed by the foundation now stands at €83.3 million.

The project’s growth is also reflected in the interest generated among investors. Since the creation of the programme, the companies supported by The Collider had secured cumulative funding of €35.7 million. In 2024 alone, the programme’s spin-offs raised a total of €6.1 million, with €3.4 million coming from private investment and €2.7 million from public funding.

Currently, The Collider’s portfolio includes 12 active companies that collectively employ 134 professionals. Over the course of 2024, the programme advised more than 30 projects from leading universities and research centres in Catalonia and Spain. Additionally, two initiatives were established as companies and joined MWCapital’s technology transfer initiative: Yplasma, a spin-off from the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA), develops plasma-based solutions with applications in aerospace, energy, and environmental sectors; and Nema Health, a project originating from the University of Lleida, specializes in personalized immunotherapies for cancer treatment in both human and animal health.

Jordi Arrufí, Head of the Tech Transfer area at Mobile World Capital Barcelona, emphasized The Collider programme’s role in turning research projects into real-world solutions and “the ability of deeptech spin-offs to generate innovations based on cutting-edge technologies—such as AI, robotics, and quantum computing—that address society’s most complex challenges.”

The companies in the portfolio offer advanced technology solutions with great potential to redefine sectors such as energy and sustainability, healthcare, and Industry 4.0.

A benchmark methodology at the European level

Through The Collider, MWCapital plays a key role in identifying projects emerging from universities and research centers and supporting them throughout the process of becoming market-impacting, solid, and scalable deeptech companies.

Beyond its national growth, the programme has been recognized as a benchmark venture builder of the European EIC Tech2Market project, promoted by the European Innovation Council (EIC), over the past two years. Through this initiative, The Collider has assisted more than 120 scientific teams from the EIC initiative in their path to market.

New momentum for the project

In 2025, MWCapital aims to strengthen and expand its contribution to the country’s digital transformation. To achieve this, the foundation will give new momentum to its The Collider programme through collaboration agreements with various institutions and organisations to broaden its reach, enhance its nationwide presence, and increase its capacity to attract and support new projects transitioning to the market.

According to MWCapital’s humanistic vision, this commitment to technology transfer will focus on disruptive innovations that promote digital transformation, talent development, and the use of technology for the common good.
