Barcelona, 8 July 2019.- Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and Novartis have reached an agreement to collaborate in The Collider, the MWCapital’s technology transfer programme that brings scientific knowledge and entrepreneurial talent together for the creation of highly innovative technology startups. The Collider focuses on disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Virtual Reality applied to sectors such as industry, mobility and health.
The agreement between Novartis and MWCapital will give the company an active role in selecting projects, technologies and entrepreneurs for the forthcoming edition of The Collider (2019-2020). It will also take part in the design of challenges for the teams of researchers and entrepreneurs involved in the programme. It will likewise collaborate in validating technologies and business plans for future companies that emerge from the initiative.
According to Oscar Sala, Director of The Collider: “We have the chance to transform strategic sectors for our society such as health, through collaboration between science and business”. Sala added that “the involvement of Novartis, a world benchmark in this area, underlines the potential of tech transfer in the health sector and opens up a host of opportunities for projects that may emerge from the third edition of The Collider”.
José Marcilla, Director General of Novartis Oncology, meanwhile stated that “at Novartis we are reappraising medicine with a view to prolonging and improving people’s lives. We are therefore pledged to innovation, new technologies and the opportunities arising from the digital ecosystem in order to accelerate progress in biomedical research and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies capable of transforming clinical practice. We likewise wish to collaborate with technology startups and companies that help us to improve prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of patients in different areas of therapy”.uticas”.
