Pepsico and Mobile World Capital Barcelona join forces to promote digital talent development

  • The agreement between the food and beverage leading company and Barcelona Digital Talent aims to attract national and international professionals in the technological and digital fields.

PepsiCo and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation (MWCapital) signed a collaboration agreement this morning to support Barcelona Digital Talent’s activities.  Barcelona Digital Talent is MWCB Foundation’s program for the attraction of digital talent. By joining forces with this internationally renowned organization,  the food and beverage sector leading company, which launched its own global digital hub in Barcelona at the end of last year, reaffirms its commitment to the city’s technological sector.

With this new agreement, PepsiCo joins Barcelona’s digital public and private institutions’ joint efforts to respond to the lack of talent, one of today’s main problems companies face when trying to build digital capabilities. Both parties will work together under a common strategy and coordinate efforts to address this problem.

PepsiCo will collaborate with Barcelona Digital Talent and will be directly involved in activities such as presentations by company professionals, some of the program’s studies, speed-dating events to attract international and local professionals, talent reskilling programs or workshops led by experts in digital talent management.

“Our ‘hub’s’ role is contributing to business growth and, in order to fulfill this important task, attracting the best digital talent is crucial. The alliance with Barcelona Digital Talent will be a key element in creating and retaining the best talent while helping to consolidate Barcelona as a digital capital”, explains Gaston Besanson, Director of Global Data Science at PepsiCo.

Barcelona Digital Talent different areas of work include promoting the training and attraction of digital talent into the local ecosystem or identifying and bridging the digital market’s supply and demand gap. For that, the program is betting on the digital skills training required by companies.

“Currently, the demand for digital talent in Barcelona already exceeds pre-pandemic figures, with an increase of 43% compared to the previous year”, points out Francesc Fajula, CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona.” Our collaboration with PepsiCo and other leading international innovation centers, which are consolidating themselves in our environment, is essential to strengthen the ability to attract talent from other economies”, adds Fajula.

Last October Pepsico announced the launch of its global digital hub in Barcelona intended to accelerate the company’s transformation with a clear commitment to female talent. More than 130 people from 25 plus countries, 30% of them women, have been hired so far by this new hub which aims to reach 400 recruitments by 2024.
