Barcelona, 28 January 2019.- Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) is hosting Mobile Week 2019 for the third time both in Barcelona and throughout Catalonia at five new locations: Girona, Lleida, Reus, Igualada and La Ribera d'Ebre. From 14 to 23 February, art, science and technology will come together on a parallel basis in the six regions with a view to encouraging reflection on technological and digital development. After the success of the first two editions in Barcelona, the initiative will be held again one week before MWC Barcelona and encourage reflection and citizen mobilisation.

This year’s edition will feature a programme of open and free activities, go by the title 'Our simple relation with technology' and invite citizens to reflect on the impact of technology in their everyday lives. Artists, scientists, philosophers, engineers, entrepreneurs and professionals will engage in this debate in an open and totally free city environment.

    Mobile Week Barcelona 2019

For the third year running, the world’s mobile capital will host a complete programme featuring over 80 of its own activities and more than de 50 collaborator institutions spread over 60 public venues in the city and with the presence of more than 100 speakers. For yet another year, the initiative will involve the active participation of Barcelona City Council and a further 200 collaborators, local institutions, innovation areas, research and scientific centres, and others, and will be consolidated as a crosscutting project in the city.

Mobile Week Barcelona is back with a programme divided into four different activity formats: mWeek CONFERENCES, an open meeting place for reflection; mWeek WORKSHOPS, participatory and inclusive experiences about the digital world; mWeek EXHIBITION, 14 artistic creations selected for this edition that will be on display for a month at Disseny Hub Barcelona; and mWeek FAMILIES, in a technological environment in which children, young people, adults and mentors explore, investigate, make mistakes and create together.

The proposed activities significantly include the mWeek CONFERENCES programme, which will feature different debates involving international speakers and local experts who in the morning and afternoon every day will introduce technological developments into the daily life of the public. Each session will tackle specific subjects that notably include new forms of learning both inside and outside the classroom; the impact of new social economies on citizen communities and fake news and its social impact.

mWeek EXHIBITION will host 10 works by international digital artists who have been selected by a specialised jury that includes Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás from ZKM and Rosa Ferré, Director of Matadero Madrid. The creations from 2019 reflect on Artificial Intelligence, the power of bitcoins, the influence of the social networks in the media and the impact of robots on society. The exhibition will also host 4 works from the BEEP Electronic Art collection, which will take part as a guest during Mobile Week Barcelona.

    Mobile Week Catalonia

It is being promoted on a joint basis with the Government of Catalonia and to involve the whole country, four cities (Girona, Lleida, Igualada, Reus) and one county (La Ribera d’Ebre) are joining the project with a view to bringing the debate on the digital revolution to the public at large.

In La Ribera d’Ebre, the activities will last the whole week (18 to 24 February) while the people of Girona can enjoy this initiative for three days (21 to 23 February). In the other cities a single activities day will be held. In Igualada this will take place on Friday 22 February while in Lleida and Reus it will be held on Wednesday 20 February.
