Europe nears 10 million ICT specialists
The report details that Barcelona already has 122,185 digital professionals, which means having incorporated almost 55,000 new ICT specialists since 2018, the first year of the report’s completion. The 13,500 new professionals added to the digital job market during 2023 represents an increase of 12.4% over the previous year in the city’s supply of technological talent.
1 out of 3 digital professionals are women in Barcelona
Barcelona has almost 35,000 women in digital professions, which means a weight of 30.6% of the total talent. Although this is a figure still far from parity, in the last 5 years there has been an increase of more than 8 points compared to 22% in 2018.
The demand for digital talent has doubled in the last 5 years, although in the last year it fell by 13% as a result of the drop in investment by venture capital funds.
In 2023, 34,192 job offers were published in Barcelona. The evolution of the demand for digital talent has behaved heterogeneously depending on the segments that make up the digital economy. While the number of offers published by the city’s technology hubs has increased by 37%, startups have offered 34% fewer vacancies compared to 2022, a fall that correlates with a drop of close to 50% of the total investment attracted. All in all, the demand for professionals has decreased by 13% this year, although it has more than doubled compared to the 15,865 offers in 2018.

Emerging sectors and new professions
The report analyzes three technology fields in full expansion and with high potential, such as NewSpace, Quantum technologies and Semiconductors. For each of these fields, the trends, use cases and main professional fields expected to develop are identified.
