Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) has closed the call for entries for the first ‘MWCapital Awards: Technologies for a Sustainable Future’, receiving a total of 157 applications, 38% of which come from international initiatives. Organised in collaboration with B Lab Spain and GSMA Foundry, the awards aim to recognise technological projects with a sustainable vision, successfully engaging entrepreneurs and organisations from around the world in the responsible digital transition.
The applications submitted come from 34 countries and span various areas, with 54% in the startup category, 17% from non-profit organisations, 8% from academic and research institutions, 10% from public institutions, and 11% from companies. This diversity highlights the breadth of the global ecosystem mobilised to tackle sustainability challenges through digital innovation.
This first edition of the MWCapital Awards recognises the most innovative projects that leverage technology to drive the transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive future. It aligns with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to generate a positive impact on society and the planet. The awards not only seek to celebrate creativity and innovation but also to acknowledge their tangible societal impact, contributing to a responsible and global digital transformation.
Visibility at MWC26 and Pilot Programme in Barcelona
The 15 finalist projects will be evaluated by a jury composed of renowned national and international experts in sustainability, technological innovation, and social development. This panel, made up of leading figures from the technology and sustainability sectors, will assess the 15 finalists and select the 6 winners (one per category).
The 6 recognised initiatives will have the opportunity to present their projects during the MWC26 Barcelona enhancing their visibility within the tech sector and expanding collaboration and funding opportunities. Additionally, the project with the greatest potential impact in Barcelona will receive up to €50,000 to pilot and implement the initiative in the city.
Awards Ceremony
The MWCapital Awards ceremony will take place on 12 June 2025 in Barcelona. During the event, the six winning projects will be announced, and recognised for their level of innovation and their ability to drive positive societal change through technology.
