- The objective of Mobile Week is to familiarise society as a whole with technology
12 June, 2020
Barcelona, 12 June 2020.- Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and the Regional Government of Catalonia have issued a call for participation in Mobile Week 2021, which next year will be held for the fifth time. With this call to town and county councils, it is hoped that in 2021 Mobile Week will be the broadest-based and most participatory to date.
These authorities are required to submit a proposal of activities in keeping with the contents of the Mobile Week Catalonia 2021 programme, which is based on three core areas: protecting our privacy and data on the Internet, the professional digital skills in demand from the market, and the role of technology during crises.
Different types of events, such as talks or workshops with theoretical-practical activities, may be presented. Activities must last from one to three days, depending on the size of each town, and will take place in the weeks starting on 22 February and on 8 March 2021.
Once all the proposals have been submitted by the towns and other institutions, their suitability to the Mobile Week programme will be evaluated on the basis of considerations that include their values and subject matters, the proposal’s creativity, the technological component they offer and whether they are activities geared to specific groups. The deadline for submitting the projects is 17 July and the selected initiatives will be announced on 15 September.
4 editions of Mobile Week
Mobile Week was first held in 2017 with a view to familiarising the general public with technology and to creating a space for reflection on the impact of technology on society, while encouraging citizens’ digital skills in all areas of their lives. Mobile Week runs a schedule of free talks and workshops intended to establish areas for reflection, inclusive debates and participatory activities and to bring the tools offered by digital technology into contact with social, cultural, ethical and human concerns and needs while placing citizens at the core of the digital revolution.
The first edition of Mobile Week took place in the city of Barcelona in 2017. The success of the initial editions led MWCapital and the Regional Government of Catalonia, in 2019, to extend it throughout Catalonia and for a further five towns, in addition to Barcelona, to have their own Mobile Week. In 2020, Mobile Week saw considerable growth and was held not only in Barcelona, but also in 15 towns throughout Catalonia.
