- Both institutions seek to position Barcelona as a benchmark in the global tourism industry
Barcelona, 11 October 2018.- The Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation (MWCapital) and the Barcelona Hotel Guild have signed a collaboration agreement to boost innovation in the Catalan tourism sector. This agreement has yielded an activity programme known as the “Travel Innovation Hub” that seeks to construct an extensive local community in the tourism innovation sector, focused on connecting with international hubs and on sharing knowledge and resources to make the most of synergies.
This agreement, which will last a year, will feature an operating plan and a Monitoring Committee made up of representatives of both institutions. One of the priority objectives established by MWCapital and the Barcelona Hotel Guild is the need to generate a more beneficial and sustainable tourism industry in the city, in which new technology- and innovation-based solutions and business models are deployed and implemented. It also underlines their commitment both to placing the Barcelona region on the map as a benchmark centre of innovation within the global tourism industry, and to attracting the interest of the world’s best talents and companies with a view to reinforcing the tourism ecosystem.
Through this alliance both parties therefore agree to make the utmost effort to ensure a solid relationship between the tourism industry and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in order to create interactions in the field of digital transformation and open innovation. Attracting the interest and commitment of companies and encouraging them to take part in initiatives associated with the process of digital transformation in the tourism sector is another point upon which they will focus, as well as activating and making use of both parties’ networks in order to establish drive towards the corporate tourism industry and the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
